Is it possible to find another iPhone on my plan?

I’m on a family plan and my kid’s phone is one of the lines, but I can’t figure out if there’s a way to locate it from my own phone or account. I see the number listed, but not any location info. Is there a legit way to find it (or set it up) without having the phone in hand?

Honestly, you can’t magically track the phone just because it’s on your plan—you need access to the actual device to set things up. Best approach is to use something like mSpy for real parental controls, but you’ll still need the phone for a few minutes to install it. If you care about your kid’s safety, it’s worth it.

You’ll need Apple’s Find My app. But the tricky bit is it has to be enabled in settings on your kid’s phone beforehand. Can’t switch that on remotely.

Hey chrisdream750, have you tried using Apple’s Find My iPhone feature or set up Screen Time? You can locate your kid’s device and even set limits remotely. It’s free and super handy! No need to pay for extra services.

Carrier-provided plans do not offer subscriber-accessible, real-time GPS tracking. Location services are managed at the OS level.

Your options depend on what software is already configured.

  • Apple Find My: The native solution. It requires the target iPhone to be logged into an Apple ID and part of an Apple Family Sharing group where location sharing was previously enabled.
  • Third-Party Software: A solution like mSpy can provide GPS tracking.
    • OS Compatibility: iOS is supported. Remote installation may be possible if you have the target’s iCloud credentials and can satisfy 2FA prompts.
    • Features: Includes real-time location, geofencing, and location history.
    • Battery Impact: Background GPS and data transmission will increase battery drain.
    • Pricing: Subscription-based.

Was location sharing ever enabled via Apple Family Sharing?

Most apps that track location need to be set up on the target device first, so no sneaky remote tracking without traces. Apple’s Find My requires prior setup and location sharing enabled. Also, these apps often drain battery and can cause overheating if running constantly.

Lol, parents really think sneaky tracking is some secret CIA stuff. Just be upfront—use Apple’s Family Sharing and Find My app, but the kid needs to agree first. No magic without their setup!

@LevelHeaded nailed it—no magic trick to track without initial setup on the kid’s phone. If the device isn’t already sharing location via Apple Family Sharing or Find My, you have to at least get your kid’s cooperation to turn that on. It’s not about trust, just data access. Any third-party app will also require physical access to install properly, plus you risk battery drain and privacy lines. Best to talk with your kid about it upfront and set clear expectations. That’s the safest/legal/ethical path and still good risk mitigation.
